Governor Paterson Announces SENSIS to Expand in East Syracuse

560 existing jobs to be retained, 300 new jobs to be created in Central New York

Governor David A. Paterson and Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that Sensis Corporation, a global provider of defense and aerospace electronics, will expand its headquarters in East Syracuse. ESD has awarded Sensis Corporation a $5 million grant for the nearly $44 million project, which will retain 560 existing high-technology jobs at the current location and create an additional 300 jobs with an average salary of $85,000.

"With strong roots in Central New York, Sensis Corporation is one of Upstate's premier success stories," said Governor Paterson. "The company has consistently outperformed, surpassing employment projections. With increasing demand in the U.S. and Europe for air traffic control systems, Sensis Corporation continues to project rapid growth. The company's expansion in East Syracuse means that we will both retain and create needed jobs. We are committed to projects targeted at revitalizing Upstate New York, and Sensis Corporation, is just one example."

The project will consolidate the company's Central New York operations through an 180,000 square foot facilities expansion at the existing Collamer Crossings Business Park location. The project will involve a 30,000 square foot expansion to the existing building and the construction of a new 150,000 square feet building adjacent to the existing building. Collamer Crossings is a Build Now NY site, and is ready to go in terms of pre-development work and infrastructure. The expansion would accommodate future growth and add 300 more employees, including engineers, computer scientists and technology support personnel. The company anticipates its co-location of operations and workforce into one facility will yield significant productivity gains. In addition, the creation of a 44-acre campus-like setting at Collamer Crossings would enhance recruitment efforts.

ESD President & CEO Marisa Lago said: "Retaining and growing this company in New York State is a critical regional priority. As a global provider of defense and aerospace electronics, the company currently employs 633 people worldwide with the majority in Upstate New York. By working with Sensis, we are able to promote economic growth for the region and opportunity for our residents. I applaud Sensis and its CEO Jud Gostin, who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Central New York."

ESD Upstate President Dennis M. Mullen said: "We are extremely grateful for Sensis Corporation's longstanding commitment to Central New York. With our country facing some of its toughest economic challenges it is especially important that we ensure that companies like Sensis continue to grow in Upstate New York. This project will accommodate future growth and add 300 employees ranging from engineers, computer scientists and technology support personnel. Through investing in job creation and sound economic development projects like Sensis, we will put New York back on the road to recovery."

Sensis Corporation President and CEO Jud Gostin said: "Sensis has always been deeply committed to Central New York; the chosen home of 600 of our employees and their families. By enabling us to expand our facilities here as required to accommodate our anticipated future growth, this capital grant makes it easy for us to maintain that deep commitment. We appreciate the State's confidence in us and intend to continue to justify it."

Senator David J. Valesky said: "Sensis Corporation has been a great corporate citizen in Central New York, and I am very pleased it is expanding its commitment to this region by expanding its operations in East Syracuse. In these difficult economic conditions, this kind of investment is critical for economic development in Central New York. Most importantly, it will not only retain high paying, high-tech jobs, but add hundreds more."

Assemblywoman Joan K. Christensen said: "This is just the kind of business we want to help to expand in New York.

Sensis has very deep roots in the Syracuse area. The company provides well-paying professional jobs that are at the leading edge of high-technology. They are a nationally recognized company and exactly the type of firm we want to promote."

Founded in 1985, Sensis serves a global client base and is an industry leader, helping to address critical issues and develop innovative, real-world solutions. The company has technology deployed in more than 25 countries across five continents.
